February 24, 2011

The Sway Machinery

First cohort Six Points Fellow Jeremiah Lockwood and his band the Sway Machinery are releasing a new album: THE HOUSE OF FRIENDLY GHOSTS VOL 1, featuring Khaira Arby, which was just showcased on NPR’s ‘All Things Considered’. The album documents their remarkable journey as the only Jewish band to travel to the Festival of the Desert in Timbuktu and subsequent collaboration with masters of Malian music. It’s Jewish brass rock meets afro beat like you’ve never heard it before.

Available at a pre-order special until the album is officially released 3/8!  Check it out here!

Thanks for the great piece on Sway Machinery and Khaira Arby. One small correction – Sway Machinery is not the only Jewish band to have played the Festival in the Dessert. Jewish bands have been part of the festival’s line-up since the start.
