The Arty Semite interviews Renee Silverman on Sosúa: Dare to Dance Together, about her film’s troubling subject–the rescue of Jewish refugees by brutal Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo.

This unlikely story was brought to life by Broadway director/composer Elizabeth Swados as a musical, starring twenty Jewish and Dominican-American teens from Washington Heights; the film chronicles the production, and the growth of the people involved through capturing this little-known moment in history.
